Raptors’ Pascal Siakam ‘getting closer,’ could return next week

| November 5, 2021, 7:46 PM November 5, 2021, 7:46 PM TORONTO — Pascal Siakam could finally make his season debut next week. The Toronto Raptors ‘ all-star forward has been recovering from off-season shoulder surgery, but coach Nick Nurse said Siakam’s return is imminent. “He’s getting closer everyday,” Nurse said Friday before the Raptors’ game against visiting Cleveland. “Everything has checked out pretty good. He’s hit all the checkmarks and everything of where he’s supposed to be, or maybe even a little ahead. “I would imagine maybe next week we’ll see him on the court… He’s been practising with contact for over a week now. All of that has been pretty short. Practices aren’t long. He has had a couple runs with the 905 (Toronto’s G League affiliate) as well.” The Raptors have no games Monday and Tuesday and so Nurse said he’ll likely get a “lengthy practice in” then, to gauge Siakam’s readiness. The Raptors are in Boston on Wednesday and Philadelphia on Thursday b...

Pep: Man Utd good against us – but we are always ahead in PL

Pep Guardiola says he is not bothered by Manchester United’s record in the derby because City have always been superior to their rivals in the Premier League since he became manager five years ago. Guardiola has been beaten in three of his last four meetings with United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer heading into Saturday’s league match at Old Trafford, live on Sky Sports . But he is quick to point out that while United have shown their credentials, City have finished above United every season in the league since he arrived in 2016, winning the title three times. Saturday 6th November 11:30am Kick off 12:30pm “They are a good, good team and this can happen, but we don’t forget the points in the last five or six years,” Guardiola told Sky Sports News . “In every single season, we were ahead of them in the Premier League. ‘Captain of the community’: Senators finally put ‘C’ on Tkachuk

The writing is off the wall and into the Senators history books. As sure as everyone knew Jack Eichel would eventually get traded, we all expected Brady Tkachuk would be named the 10th captain of the Ottawa Senators . Coincidentally, two of hockey’s more predictable storylines happened 24 hours apart, both in Ottawa. On Thursday, Eichel was traded by the Buffalo Sabres to the Vegas Golden Knights while the Knights were preparing for a game at the Canadian Tire Centre against the Senators. A day later the Senators announced that Tkachuk was getting the ‘C’ that might have been his in training camp, except that the winger was involved in lengthy contract negotiations that kept him away from the team until he signed a seven-year deal on Oct. 14. Protracted contract talks often damage a relationship between a star player and his team. Oddly enough, the opposite happened in this case. The Senators and their fan base only feel closer to Tkachuk because he committed long term to Ottawa...

Raptors’ Nurse pledges support to Earl Watson as NBA investigates Suns

Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse pledged his full support to assistant coach Earl Watson after the NBA opened an investigation into allegations of racism and professional misconduct against Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver. “We’ll support him as a friend, as a colleague in our organization, we’ll support him and be there for whatever he may need,” Nurse said. Watson, who was head coach of the Suns for parts of three seasons from 2015-18, accused Sarver of using the N-word multiple times in a wide-ranging report published by ESPN Thursday. The report, which ESPN says featured interviews with more than 70 current and former Suns employees, featured multiple similar accusations of racism and sexism against Sarver. After the ESPN story was published, Sarver denied the allegations from Watson in a statement through his attorney. “The N-word is not part of my vocabulary,” the statement reads. “I have never called anyone or any group of people the N-word, or referred to anyone o...

Smith: I’m a scrapper | Merse: Give him time

Dean Smith has vowed to fight on in his job, calling himself a “scrapper” as Aston Villa slipped to a fifth straight defeat at the hands of Southampton. Adam Armstrong’s early strike was enough for Southampton to earn three points against Aston Villa and inflict a fifth consecutive loss to increase pressure on Smith. Villa have not collected a single point since winning at Manchester United on September 25 and this 1-0 reverse will only fan the flames of speculation regarding the manager’s position ahead of the international break. When asked about his future, Smith said: “I’m a scrapper. Always have been. I’m disappointed we’ve lost five on the spin but we’ve got players out injured. Five of our bench today were academy graduates. We will get players fit during the international break and we’ll be better when we come back. “You saw what we are all about in the second half. I thought a fair score was a draw. They were the better side in the first half and we had the better of the ...

PL predictions: Man City to breeze past Man Utd

After correctly predicting a 1-0 win for Southampton, Jones Knows says Man City should have few problems in swatting aside Man Utd. Manchester United vs Manchester City, Saturday 12.30pm, live on Sky Sports Image: Man Utd vs Man City – live on Sky Sports I really wanted to make a case for backing Manchester United when first looking at the 4/1 odds available for a home win . United are unbeaten in the last four Premier League meetings with City and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is the only manager Pep Guardiola has lost against more than he has won in his managerial career (minimum four meetings) with Ole masterminding four wins over City. The counter-attack style is one that City can struggle against. However, the racing adage of never trusting one run in isolation is firmly on my mind when assessing United’s win over Tottenham. As Roy Keane said, it was the perfect game for United against such a lacklustre Spurs team. They’ll set up similarly with City on their patch, hoping Pep’s ...
