Power is the first player to commit to participating in the tournament for Canada after the NHL withdrew its players last month. In the latest 32 Thoughts blog, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported some more names who could be on Hockey Canada’s long list for the roster. Some of the names mentioned by Friedman include Jason Demers, Eric Fehr, Devan Dubnyk, Cody Franson, Josh Ho-Sang, Mason McTavish, Cole Perfetti and Eric Staal. Friedman also reported that Patrick Marleau is, at this time, not on the list. Power, 19, was the first-overall pick by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2021 NHL Draft but is eligible to play in the Games since he has not yet signed his entry-level contract.
