Mike McEwen’s Manitoba team parting ways after curling season

It’s the end of the line for Mike McEwen’s team.

The Manitoba-based club featuring skip McEwen, third Reid Carruthers, second Derek Samagalski and lead Colin Hodgson announced Thursday they’ve decided to split up following the conclusion of the curling season.

The move follows a flurry of activity among curling teams gearing up for the next Olympic cycle.

“After four years together, Team McEwen has decided to part ways at the end of this season,” the team said in a statement. “We had some incredible wins and moments together and we wish each other nothing but the best in our future personal and curling endeavours.”

McEwen, who has won seven Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling men’s titles, and Carruthers were longtime friends who linked up in 2018. Carruthers skipped the squad at first while tossing third stones with McEwen throwing last until they settled into traditional roles.

They competed in the Brier all four seasons representing Manitoba in the 2019 and 2022 events and competing as a wild-card entry in 2020 and 2021.

Team McEwen will wrap up its season at the Princess Auto Players’ Championship, April 12-17, at Toronto’s Mattamy Athletic Centre.

Duterte allows more pork imports

He said the present MAV was 54,210 metric tons, but the DA projected that the annual demand for pork supply will reach 1,618,355 mt. “The DA has recommended that the MAV must be expanded just enough to cover the projected shortfall for the year,” Nograles said during a virtual press briefing. The MAV sets the limit on agricultural imports that have a customs duty lower than the out-quota customs tariff.
