All right, so the Edmonton Oilers have a few problems. Wrote that intro to this piece more than two weeks ago and things are far worse and feel much more desperate now. A snakebitten offence has exacerbated the goalie issue, the Oilers’ most glaring weakness. GM Ken Holland’s decision to run back Mike Smith was always risky. Smith was fabulous for the Oilers last season, but it went against the grain of where he was trending and where age-related decline generally factors.
