Little: Adaptation at Arsenal & the Women’s FA Cup final

Sunday marks a huge moment for women’s football. Two of England’s best sides – Arsenal Women and Chelsea Women – go head to head for the 2020/21 FA Cup. For Arsenal captain Kim Little, she will lead out her side at the iconic Wembley Stadium. “It’s an honour to captain the club and the girls. We’ve got such a great team here so I’m looking forward to that, and the game being at Wembley,” she exclusively told Sky Sports’ Charlotte Marsh. “It’s such a great pitch and environment and atmosphere. It’ll be one to savour, they don’t come around too often during the seasons, so I’m definitely going to be as present as possible and enjoy the moment.” Ahead of this weekend’s cup final against their London rivals, Arsenal and adidas teamed up to create Paint It Red Ltd. Lead by Little, the service will be delivering ‘Arsenal Red’ paint to fans to celebrate Arsenal Women’s historic success and provide Arsenal fans with the tools to paint London red in the build up to the final. Jets’ Scheifele, Ehlers quiet sky-is-falling narrative with epic offensive outburst

WINNIPEG — Mark Scheifele and Nikolaj Ehlers found themselves in a serious offensive funk, that much was clear. They’d been used together, then split back up onto separate lines as the Winnipeg Jets continued a search for something that might provide a spark. But at a time where goals had suddenly become extremely hard to come by — nine in total during the previous seven games, for those of you scoring at home — it was Scheifele and Ehlers who ignited an offensive outburst of epic proportions in a wild game that became an 8-4 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Friday night. For a Jets team that had dropped six of the past seven games and had gone from a Central Division leader to below the playoff line in a matter of weeks, this goal-scoring explosion was a welcome sign. Scheifele, who had been limited to just one assist over his previous five games and had only two goals in 16 games for the season, recorded his fourth career hat trick and chipped in an assist to pace the o

Flames’ depth changes led by Monahan crucial in win over Ducks

ANAHEIM – The last time the Calgary Flames started this well, they won their only Stanley Cup. This is how you get there, with a new hero every night. Oh sure, on their way to the very top of the NHL standings, where they now sit, the Flames have relied on ol’ standbys, like Johnny Gaudreau , Andrew Mangiapane , Matthew Tkachuk and anybody wearing a Flames goalie mask. But Friday’s 4-3 shootout win saw a few depth changes emerge as significant cogs in the team’s magnificently spinning wheel. Stream every Flames game this season with new pricing options! SN NOW STANDARD and PREMIUM let you choose how much hockey you want to watch. While highlight-reel shootout goals by Gaudreau and Tkachuk ultimately seared the Ducks, it was Sean Monahan and Blake Coleman whose rare snipes made it possible in what was formerly the team’s house of horrors. With Coleman demoted to Monahan’s third line for the first time, both ended significant droughts with goals that helped the league’

Klopp: ‘Incredible package’ Jota a good fit for Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says Diogo Jota made such a good first impression that he was immediately convinced the forward would be a good fit for his team. Jota caught the eye playing for Wolves in their FA Cup third-round victory over the weakened Reds in January 2018. Less than two years later he had switched sides and as the Portugal international prepares to face his former club’s fans for the first time since leaving Molineux, Klopp explained what persuaded him to spend £40m on the forward . “I remember the first time I saw him I thought he could be a player for me because of how intense he was in all situations,” said Klopp. “Technically he was on a really high level but the intensity he puts in makes all the difference as at our level all players have technical quality. Konsa on Gerrard and the art of defending

Ezri Konsa is still shaking his head about the penalty that he is convinced should have been awarded to Aston Villa against Manchester City on Wednesday. It was widely reported that Nathan Ake had fouled him but that only adds to his frustration. “Once I saw that people were saying that, I knew they had got the wrong defender,” Konsa tells Sky Sports . “It was Ruben Dias who caught me. They must have shown the wrong angle on television. It was Ruben Dias who kicked the back of my left calf.” The spirited showing against the Premier League champions has ensured that the mood of optimism at Aston Villa since Steven Gerrard’s arrival remains. A third win for the new coach on Sunday would see his team overtake top-half opponents Leicester. Quick Shifts: Why Maple Leafs’ Michael Bunting is going streaking

A quick mix of the things we gleaned from the week of hockey, serious and less so, and rolling four lines deep. The Montreal Canadiens wanted to hire me, mais mon français n’est pas bon. 1. Just because Michael Bunting is being tasked with the grunt work on the left wing of Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner doesn’t mean he’s trying to be the next Zach Hyman. Nah, he’d rather be the best version of himself. And, lately, the man they call “Bunts” is knocking it out the park. Asked by a reporter Friday if he ever studied Hyman’s shifts alongside arguably the most talented duo in the East, Bunting said no. “I stick to my own game. I stick to what I bring to the table. And I feel like I can be very complementary to this line as well with what I can do,” Bunting replied. “Both of them want the puck all the time. Good things happen when it’s on their sticks.” Tied for second in the rookie scoring race, Bunting will exit this weekend with as many career games played for the Toronto M

For the Blue Jays, stakes are high in first work stoppage since 1994

TORONTO – The stakes from Major League Baseball’s lockout of its players are intriguing for the Toronto Blue Jays , a team striving to continue its recent ascendency and re-establish its business after an extended pandemic displacement. Clearly, how the sport’s economic framework changes in the next collective bargaining agreement is of pivotal importance, especially with discussions around arbitration, free agency and service time potentially impacting how cornerstones like Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Bo Bichette are compensated and controlled contractually. But there are other implications for the club from the sport’s first interruption since the players strike of 1994 – a dispute that badly impacted the Blue Jays – well beyond that, too. Here’s a look at some local considerations amid an industry-wide dispute: • Virtually every player in the majors is going through a labour interruption for the first time and it’s sure to colour their outlook moving forward. Ross Stripling is

‘National shame’ of Euro final was a ‘near miss’ for fatalities

Fan disorder which marred the Euro 2020 final at Wembley was a “near miss” of fatalities and a “source of national shame”, an independent review commissioned by the Football Association has found. The review carried out by Baroness Louise Casey of Blackstock found that approximately 2,000 ticketless fans gained entry to the stadium, of which around 400 were ejected, for the showpiece between England and Italy on July 11. It noted entry to the stadium was through 17 “mass breaches” of disabled access gates and emergency fire doors, which “jeopardised the lives of legitimate supporters and staff”. Baroness Casey found a “collective failure” by organisations in the preparation for the stature of the match. “We are genuinely lucky that there was not much more serious injury or worse, and need to take the toughest possible action against people who think a football match is somehow an excuse to behave like that,” said Baroness Casey. “I am clear that the primary responsibility for wha
